Fostering a Rescue Dog

We continuously seek quality foster families who are willing to open their hearts and homes to our rescue pups. Fostering is an incredibly rewarding experience. Foster families are supported every step of the way and have access to a private group chat with the WOFAR Board of Directors and other fosters.

"Herschel" former rescue dog with WOFAR. Happily adopted.

Fosters provides their dogs with a home, food, lots of love and attention, and guidance on learning to be a family dog, while the rescue covers vet bills, and basic tools (leashes, collars).

The bonds rescue dogs form in their foster home offer valuable insights into their personality and preferences, guiding our efforts to find theri perfect match.

Foster families are the backbone of our mission.

  1. Be prepared for the unknown. While we try to gather all available information about a rescue animal, it may not always be complete, especially for strays or animals from shelters with little background information.

  2. Expect the animal coming into your home to feel stressed and unsettled initially. Take it slow, allowing them time to adjust with baby steps.

  3. Be prepared for potential medical issues the animal may have, which may require care and attention.

  4. Be open to training the foster animal if necessary.

  5. Understand that fostering an animal can be a bittersweet experience. Falling in love with your foster animal is natural and rewarding. Each nurtured animal has a better chance of finding a 'forever home', making room to help another animal in need. Saying goodbye might be bittersweet, but remember, you play a vital role in guiding your foster animal to the right 'forever home'. Their impact stays forever in your heart.

  6. Be prepared for a potentially extended stay. Sometimes it may take weeks, months, or longer to find the right 'forever home'. We prioritize finding the perfect match for each dog, asking for your patience in this process.

  7. The rescue covers all veterinary, transportation, and medical expenses. Foster families generously provide food and bowls for the animals in their care.

  8. Most importantly, remember you're not alone! WOFAR operates as a supportive team, offering guidance and assistance every step of the way.

When committing to Fostering, please consider the following:
